Tannis has practiced family law almost exclusively since her call to the bar in 2017. Prior to becoming a lawyer, Tannis worked in journalism and communications, which is evident in her approach to family law: she takes complex legal matters and breaks them down for her clients so they are informed and empowered to make the best decisions for themselves and their families – whether at the beginning or end of their relationship.
Tannis believes that, wherever possible, it is preferable to settle matters outside of court. Tannis is a trained Collaborative Divorce Lawyer, which allows her to work with clients who are seeking a respectful divorce process out of court. Tannis is also accredited as a Family Law Mediator, empowering families to make decisions about their future in a supportive and respectful environment. She also appears regularly in both Provincial and Supreme Court on behalf of her clients.
Originally from Edmonton, Tannis is a mountain girl at heart. She fell in love with Vancouver Island when her work as a journalist brought her here, and she never wanted to leave. In her free time, Tannis takes advantage of her natural surroundings – whether on a mountain bike, a snowboard, flailing about on a surfboard, or hiking with family.
